Most to die in a care home

-

CARE homes could overtake hospitals as the most common place to die.

Just over a fifth of people now die in a home, but the number will more than double to 230,000 a year by 2040, according to research by King’s College London.

Hospital deaths fell to 241,000 in 2014. This drop is expected to continue.

Anna Bone, lead author, said there was an “urgent need to ensure adequate bed capacity, resources and training of staff in palliative care in all care homes in the country”.
