Ioan: I’m Britain’s most hated man
LIAR star Ioan Gruffudd is worried about coming home to the UK – because he fears getting battered by umbrella-wielding grannies.
The actor, currently filming in Australia, can’t wait to see his wife and two daughters, but said his role as a serial rapist had made him “the most hated man in Britain”.
Ioan, 44, said: “I may be on the Tube and people will move away or the older generation will come at me with their umbrellas!
“It’s beyond our wildest dreams that the show has this impact, though. It’s great that they feel betrayed by Andrew and saddened by what he has done.”
The show’s finale is on Monday with “exciting twists” to come. “Viewers will be satisfied, but slightly uneasy,” added Ioan.
TV insiders are tipping a second series for Liar after six million tuned in.
Ioan, who starred alongside Joanne Froggatt, thinks it could be a mistake. He told TV Times: “I’d worry how you’d create tension when you know he has committed these crimes. It would be interesting to see how they’d weave a compelling story.”
