MANE INJURY IS HUGE BLOW FOR KLOPP

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

LIVERPOOL’S season has been thrown into turmoil with news that Sadio Mane could miss the next TEN games.

The winger tore his hamstring playing for Senegal at the weekend and is expected to be out for at least six weeks. That means he will miss Saturday’s visit to Anfield of Manchester United and also key games

against top-four rivals Spurs and possibly Chelsea.

And his absence is a blow to Liverpool’s hopes of reaching the knock-out stages of the Champions League – in the next few weeks they play Maribor twice before a trip to Sevilla, four days before they host Chelsea, on November 21.

Boss Jurgen Klopp (left) has made no secret of how important he feels Mane is to the Reds – the German coach has said his side’s greatest achievement last season was to reach the top four despite missing their most important player for three months.

Liverpool’s win rate without Mane is just 43 per cent; with the Senegal star it is 60 per cent. During his time at Anfield Mane has missed 14 Premier League matches and, of those, the Reds have won just six.

In a statement last night, Liverpool, with just one win in seven matches, said: “It has now been confirmed that Sadio Mane picked up an injury during international duty that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks.”
