The top 10 toys this Christmas
Top 10 kids’ Xmas toys... and most won’t leave much change from £100
MOST of this year’s top 10 Christmas toys are hi-tech – and come with a high price tag to match.
Among must-haves that won’t give you much change out of £100 are the Star Wars-themed Lego BB-8 (£85) and Hatchimals Egg Surprise (£75).
The egg – a twist on last year’s Hatchimals success which sold out ahead of the big day – is expected to be No1 bestseller. The top 10, compiled by toy store Hamleys, also includes an interactive tiger cub called Tyler for £135 and a £100 Luvabella doll which has a “heartbeat”, plays peek-a-boo and giggles when her toes are tickled.
Another big seller at £90 is expected to be Barbie’s DreamHorse. Seven of the 10 toys are hi-tech and only two are under £25. Nerf has updated its “blaster” to fire foam cars over obstacles with its Nitro Longshot (£22).
And Hasbro’s Get a Grip (£21) – tipped as the year’s unexpected hit – challenges players in a range of skills from drawing and sculpting to carrying out tasks without using their thumbs.
Hamley’s head buyer Victoria Kay said: “We’ve seen a lot of tech for tech’s sake but now toys are getting smarter in how kids can personalise them.”
ODDEST hit toy of the year could be a lime green blob called Snot which will feature in the first festive ad of the year tomorrow during X Factor. It’s sold by Smyths and all proceeds from the £9.99 toy go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
