Dementia No1 death cause
DEMENTIA, including Alzheimer’s disease, remains the leading cause of death in England and Wales, figures reveal.
Data from the Office for National Statistics shows the condition accounted for 12% of deaths in 2016.
Last year, dementia overtook heart disease as the leading cause of death.
Heart disease remains in second place, with 11%.
Men are more likely to die from heart disease (13.7%) and women from dementia (15.6%).
