Gift horse from GG
GEORGE GROVES has dismissed challenger Jamie Cox, claiming he has been “gifted” a shot at his WBA supermiddleweight title.
Groves faces Cox in London tomorrow – the first defence of his WBA crown – in the quarterfinal of the World Boxing Super Series.
The champ chose Cox from a pool of opponents and says the unbeaten Swindon fighter is lucky because he has not earned a crack at his WBA belt.
“He’s been gifted a world-title shot,” said Groves. “He hasn’t fought anyone decent to get this. I picked him, it’s fantastic for him.”
Groves, 29, will face Chris Eubank Jnr in the semi-finals if he wins.
