Shellfish ‘make world clammier’

OYSTERS, mussels and clams produce significant amounts of greenhouse gases just like herds of dairy cows, a study claims.

The shellfish pump out nitrous oxide and methane, which has 28 times more global warming potential than carbon dioxide.

A tenth of methane emissions from the WUFF TIME Floyd had been rescued after ill-treatment Baltic Sea may be due to clams and worms, scientists from Cardiff University and Stockholm University in Sweden found.

Co-author Dr Ernest Chi Fru, from Cardiff University, said: “Apparently harmless bivalves may be contributing ridiculous amounts of greenhouse gases.”
