Fiona, I love your column. Thank you for championing dementia. My dad suffered from it and now I’m caring for my husband who has vascular dementia.

I’m lucky that he’s usually very sociable, with a smile that lights up a room. He says the most unexpected things – eg at a quiz when asked “What’s the name of the Ribble Valley MP?” he answered, “D***head”!

A very special charity, Revitalise, runs holiday centres for disabled people and their carers. Three times a year they have Alzheimer’s Week, aiming to give carers a rest. We’ve just got back from a week at Sandpipers in Southport – it was amazing. Jean, via email

FP:

Sounds great, Jean. Thank goodness for Revitalise. There’s also a charity called Dementia Adventure, which offers similar experiences.

Fiona, those vultures who are circling Theresa May should be sacked. The last thing we need is division while we’re trying to get a good Brexit deal. She appears to me a trustworthy woman who wants to do the best for her country. People love Angela Merkel, yet she has problems with speeches and her image too.

FP:

The Germans do fondly call Merkel ‘Mutti’ though, Julie. I can’t even imagine calling Theresa May mummy, the English equivalent!

Fiona, do you really want a Marxist leader to be put in charge of the UK?

A bankrupt country in less than five years? You strike me as intelligent, earning good money, yet you support Corbyn. Give him keys to No 10? It’s tantamount to giving an alcoholic an off-licence to run.

I think you’ve been reading some strange newspapers, Melvyn. Best to stick to the Mirror.

Lib Dem MP Jo Swinson says it is right that when Donald Trump visits the UK he is not given the red carpet treatment. True. But it would be even better if he were not given the opportunity to come at all.

A third of underfives have now got their own tablet. And don’t we know it? Can the third of under-fives’ parents please tell their little darlings not to pump them up to full volume on planes, trains and in restaurants? SO annoying.
