GET KICK OUT OF HOOF IT

- BY DAVE MITCHELL

VETERANS Mick Easterby (below) and

HOOF IT can show age is no barrier to sprinting glory at York today.

These old boys have been regulars on the Knavesmire for years, yet Hoof It has showed recently that he still has some magic in him.

He went close in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood before being sharpened up for today’s six-furlong Coral Sprint Trophy by flying home in the closing stages here in August. The 10-year-old was so full of beans at the finish it took jockey Paul Mulrennan fully a halfmile to pull him up.

With Stake Acclaim — a horse who caught our eye at Haydock — there to give him a lead from trap one, Hoof It is ideally berthed in six and smacks of being laid out for this contest with talented apprentice Harrison Shaw claiming a useful 7lb.
