Jail sentence threat on acid attackers
THUGS who are caught twice with corrosive substances would automatically face a jail sentence of at least six months under new proposals.
It is part of a crackdown on acid attacks. The two strikes rule, including the possibility of a suspended sentence, mirrors the regime for people convicted of more than one knife possession offence.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd said: “All forms of violent crime are totally unacceptable, which is why we are taking action to... crack down on those who carry acids with the intent to do harm.”
The consultation document is published today.
