2005: Manchester United and Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane announced he was to quit international football.

2007: South Africa beat Argentina 37-13 to set up a rematch with England in the rugby union World Cup final. The Springboks went on to beat Brian Ashton’s side 15-6.

2013: Surrey appointed Sri Lanka coach Graham Ford as their new head coach.

Australia spinner Shane Warne equalled the record for most wickets in Test cricket by claiming his 532nd scalp in the Second Test against India. He ended his Test career with 708 wickets.
