THE DAY UNITED PARKED THE BUS AT ANFIELD... WITH BOB PAISLEY ON IT!

-

THE rivalry remains intense but it is nothing compared with the mid-Eighties when this photograph was taken.

It was Alex Ferguson’s first trip to Anfield as Manchester United boss. On their previous visit, with Ron Atkinson in charge, the United team coach had been attacked on its way into the ground with a brick hitting a window.

Then, as the visitors left their coach, the United stars were sprayed with a substance believed to be ammonia or tear gas. For United’s next visit Liverpool legend Bob Paisley rode in and out of Anfield on the United coach. His presence ensured the visit passed off peacefully – and Bob had a laugh with Fergie and United skipper Bryan Robson.
