Unlicensed fight death of debut boxer

- BY SAM RUSSELL

A CORONER voiced concerns about unlicensed boxing after a young man died from a punch to the head in his first fight.

Jakub Moczyk, 22, died in hospital two days later.

His twin sister Magdalena said the fight at Atlantis Tower Arena in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, was “a total nightmare”.

She told Norfolk coroner’s court, Norwich: “Nobody seemed to be in charge or responsible.”

Unlicensed boxing events are legal, and there are no minimum standards, the inquest heard.

Coroner Jaqueline Lake said she was concerned “such a high-risk event can be held where there’s no set regulation”. She ordered a report to prevent possible future deaths.

Verdict: misadventure
