NELSON SAILS IN LATE FOR THE CANARIES

-

NELSON OLIVEIRA wishes his last-gasp strike for Norwich had been a winner not an equaliser.

The striker, who played for Portugal in the Euro 2012 Finals, pounced in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

That denied 10-man Hull victory, with Nouha Dicko firing the Tigers in front before David Meyler was sent off just before the hour.

Oliveira only came on as a late sub, but produced a smart finish after Cameron Jerome flicked the ball on.

He said: “It’s always good to score in the last minute but more important than that is we didn’t lose. We’ve kept the unbeaten run and we deserved something.

“We showed that we were the better team and maybe we deserved more than a draw. We were 1-0 down and scoring in the last minute is very important and it gives us an important point.

“Our spirit is very good, our togetherness is very good, too. So we believe until the end and that’s what we did today.”

The Canaries are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, but are still outside the play-off spots.

Oliveira added: “In September we had an unbelievable month and we have to do this next month again and in every month if we want to get promoted.”

Hull are stuck in mid-table and have yet to win away this term.

Boss Leonid Slutsky said: “I feel all terrible feelings together now inside of me. We played 10 against 11 for 35 minutes which is difficult.

“We showed character, we played compact and we had good discipline, but it was difficult. We have conceded five times at the end of the match now.”
