‘Only 300’ IS still in Raqqa after pull-out
JUST 300 Islamic State fighters are thought to be left in Raqqa, the terror group’s “capital” in Syria.
Hundreds fled the besieged city on Sunday in a deal with US-backed militias. Syrian Democratic Forces yesterday had them hemmed in a small pocket.
Raqqa was the first major Syrian city to fall to Islamic State as it rampaged through Syria and Iraq in 2014.
It became an operations centre for attacks abroad and the site of appalling atrocities.
Col Ryan Dillon, of the US-led international coalition, said: “We still expect difficult fighting.”
