Tory digs in for disaster

-

WHEN almost a quarter of the food we eat is imported from Europe, many lawns, parks, grass verges and wildlife reserves might need to be farmed if Britain is to grow enough to fill the void.

Theresa May would be wise to lock Transport Secretary Chris “Dig for Victory” Grayling in a garden shed and chuck away the key.

Grayling fails to appreciate the value of British exports, including lamb and beef, to EU neighbours. Crashing out without a trade deal to continue selling tariff-free to 27 countries would be a catastrophe for farmers as much as for factories and financial services.

Perhaps Grayling is unable to acknowledge publicly the mess he’s dumped Britain into, threatening jobs and prosperity with the deceit uttered last year. Or maybe he really doesn’t get it, valuing his own ideology more.

Either way, Grayling’s another reason why Britons are worried about Brexit.
