GOALS WILL BE MY DOM-INION PROMISES DCL

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN has vowed to help solve Everton’s chronic goalscoring problems.

Everton’s failure to replace Romelu Lukaku is costing them dear – they have managed just eight goals in their last nine games ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Lyon.

Ronald Koeman admits they lack a natural No.9 and Calvert-Lewin says he needs to contribute more goals to take his game to the next level.

The England Under-21 striker has netted three times this season but knows he missed a couple of good opportunities in Sunday’s draw against Brighton.

“It was frustrating that after we’d had chances, Brighton went and nicked one,” said Calvert-Lewin.

“I had a couple of chances and was a bit frustrated not to score.

“I’m getting a lot of chances in games. I want to take myself to the next level now and I need to start putting those away.”

Everton’s lack of goals is one of the factors behind their miserable run of just two wins in 11 games, a run which is putting Koeman’s job under threat.

But Calvert-Lewin, 20, sees their late fightback at Brighton, where Wayne Rooney converted a lastminute penalty, as proof that they have the spirit to turn things around.

“We showed more character than we have in recent weeks to dig in late in the game and we will take that into the next one,” he said.

“We are creating chances and it’s just a matter for us of putting them away now.”

Everton, who host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, badly need a result against Lyon at Goodison Park to kick-start their group campaign after taking just one point from their opening two games.

Keeper Jordan Pickford insists that results will improve for the stuttering Blues.

“We have played well as a group and we’re moving forward,” said Pickford. “We can take confidence into the next game.”
