War vets battle on with little support
What a tragic story that the troubled ex-army captain son of former England footballer Terry Butcher has died suddenly.
Tragic, but all too common.
On his Facebook profile, Christopher Butcher, who’d served in Afghanistan, wrote: “Left the Army and now just a moody bitter vet.”
Three years ago, his dad said Chris was “not in a good way”.
He was not alone. As our sister paper the Sunday People has revealed in an excellent campaign, Government support for servicemen and women is still woeful.
Nearly 400 took their own lives between 1995 and 2014.
We should be doing far more to save the lives of those who put their own at risk in the name of Great Britain.
