MAGICAL NAMES
Harry was destined for battle with Voldemort but when it comes to things written in the stars, JK Rowling didn’t stop there.
She took inspiration for many of her characters’ names from real constellations, though it seems she favoured those celestial names for baddies.
As Voldemort’s right-hand woman Bellatrix Lestrange lived up to her name. Bellatrix is the third brightest star in the Orion constellation and means “female warrior”.
Her nephew was also named after a constellation, as Draco is the Latin word for dragon.
The students at Hogwarts studied the stars from the Astronomy Tower – where Dumbledore fell to his death – but they could have saved some time with a globe designed in 1693 by Vincenzo Coronelli, one of the world’s best globe makers. It shows the position of the stars in the sky as viewed from the Earth.
