Back for another series at the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, the self-confessed canine addict reveals: “There are a few stories that are real heartbreak­ers, so get your hankies out.”

He also admits he came “dangerousl­y close” to adopting a few of the pups shown in this series, but managed to resist the urge.

This episode is like 101 Dalmatians (OK, not quite) as a litter of them arrives at Battersea. Dalmatian cross, Fern, was found wandering the streets pregnant and malnourish­ed – now she has 11 hungry pups to feed.

Meanwhile, chunky Shar Pei cross Max is almost double his recommende­d weight. Paul squeezes into his kennel to see if he can help with his much-needed diet. And there’s a tiny Yorkie, called Wilma, with a serious body odour problem. HANKIES OUT Paul with Wilma
