CAN I PROPOSE AFTER 3 WEEKS?

-

Dear Coleen

I’ve been with my girlfriend for three weeks and things have been going really well. She’s great – in fact, more than great!

I’ve never been the type of guy to come across as needy or overly keen – however you’d like to describe it – but I really feel that this girl is “the one”.

I’ve been out and bought an engagement ring. Is it too soon to propose?

Coleen says

Do I think it’s too soon – um, yes! It’s great that you feel so enthused and positive about this relationship, but she might think you’re totally bonkers if you propose after three weeks.

If you don’t want to scare her off, then I suggest you stash the engagement ring at the back of a drawer and concentrate on getting to know her better.

There’s no way you can know if you’re right for each other and if marriage is on the cards after just three weeks.

Yes, I do think there’s some truth in “love at first sight”, but I still think you should let the relationship develop more before making a proposal.

Right now, it’s all hearts and roses and, no doubt, lust and passion. But you also need to love that person and want to be with them when you can see who they really are, warts and all.

Good luck. I’m happy for you!
