De Bruyne title scrap with Jose

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

KEVIN DE BRUYNE reckons the title race is likely to come down to a straight fight between Manchester’s rival clubs.

Pep Guardiola’s City, inspired by De Bruyne, lead Jose Mourinho’s United by two points at the top of the Premier League.

Although third-placed Tottenham remain within touching distance, five points adrift of City, De Bruyne admitted it is already looking like City versus United for the title.

“For the moment I think so, but everybody’s still there,” said De Bruyne.

“It’s so early. We have to maintain this hopefully.”

City finished third in Guardiola’s debut campaign last season, fading after an impressive start, but De Bruyne said City are a more formidable and consistent side this time around.

“We play dominant football and like to put a lot of pressure on and if you can do that, it works well. Everyone is in great shape.”

Asked for the difference between this season and last, De Bruyne told ESPN: “Just that we’re winning. Last year we played good football but, especially, we didn’t win the big games.”
