A change to the pension system could actually simplify things for savers. The Government has confirmed it will back the development of a pensions dashboard – a scheme to bring all pension information into one place online.

Savers will be able to access details on all their pension pots from current and past employers, plus private savings and state pension, rather than trying to keep up with each one separately.

Tom McPhail, pensions expert and head of policy at investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown, said: “There is strong support for the initiative, which will ensure pensioners can plan their retirement in confidence.”

The dashboard is not expected to be launched until 2019.
