Paul Whitehouse: We’d love to bring back comedy show but not without Caroline

PAUL Whitehouse has revealed the cast and creators of the Fast Show discuss bringing it back to our screens “every day”.

But the actor, 59, believes there would be a “hole” in any future series without Caroline Aherne, who died last year of lung cancer, aged 52. Paul, whose comedy characters include Rowley Birkin QC and the Suit You Tailors, said: “Every day we go, ‘Could we? Should we?’ We’d love to in some ways, because we loved it. “Sadly, we don’t have Caroline, so there would be a big hole in it.” He was also unsure if modern audiences would appreciate the BBC2 sketch show’s humour. He continued: “You’d certainly be appealing to the old audience initially. I don’t know whether it would work for people now.”

Paul was speaking at the premiere of Armando Iannucci’s new film, The Death of Stalin, in which he stars as Soviet statesman Anastas Mikoyan.

The Fast Show returned for a one-off special in 2014 for its 20th anniversary. It was the only episode since 2000.
