Tory candidate: Being drunk & disorderly ‘will win votes’
A TORY election candidate says his conviction for being drunk and disorderly will appeal to voters.
Jonathan Dulston, 28, a police special constable, was chosen to contest a council seat less than four months after being fined £120 for causing a disturbance outside a pub.
Mr Dulston, who is standing for Darlington Council, Co Durham, said: “It’s not ideal, but I think people are looking for people who represent reality, who make mistakes. “Sometimes bad experiences make you a stronger person and give you a greater insight into people’s lives.” The poll, triggered by the resignation of the sitting Labour councillor, takes place on November 16. Chris McEwan, of Darlington Labour Party, said: “I’m surprised the Tories thought this man was a fit and proper person. They’re out of touch.”
