SAXON WARRIOR and The Pentagon will bid to take Aidan O’Brien into racing’s record books in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster next Saturday.

Hydrangea’s strong-staying victory over favourite Bateel in the Ascot’s QIPCO British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes on Saturday (above) was the master of Ballydoyle’s 25th top-level success of 2017.

That equalled the all-time record set by American legend Bobby Frankel 14 years ago — and history beckons at Town Moor. O’Brien (below), who has won the Group 1 juvenile contest on no fewer than seven occasions, said yesterday: “We are thinking of running The Pentagon and Saxon Warrior at Doncaster in the Racing Post Trophy.

“We will decide during the week.” Both colts feature prominently in the market for next year’s Derby.

O’Brien revealed Hydrangea and British Champions Long Distance Cup hero Order Of St George are set to race on in 2018.

He adding of the filly: “To do that over a mile and a half was something else.”
