ERIC THE RED WOULD LICH A NEW DEAL

- BY STEVE MADELEY

IN-FORM striker Leo Bonatini says Wolves do not fear tomorrow’s clash with free-scoring Manchester City.

ERIC LICHAJ has set his sights on winning a new Nottingham Forest contract.

The American defender, 28, is something of a cult hero at the City Ground and celebrated the goal that clinched victory over Burton with a jig of delight halfway round the pitch.

Lichaj (above) has only just won his place back in the side but is out of contract in the summer and desperate to stay put.

He said: “I am still hopeful of signing a new deal. I love it here.

”My wife loves the place and she has her shop here. We live up in Kirkby and everyone all around the place is fantastic and at the club. All the fans are amazing.

“This is my fifth season here now and I have got to know all the history and what this place means to people. I love the club and I love the city. It is all good.

“So a new contract would always be nice.

“I think you could see what it meant when I scored. I am a little bit over the top when I do score a goal. It doesn’t happen very often, so I was excited to get it. It was really good.”

After being sent back by Derby along Brian Clough Way with tails between their legs last weekend, there was no chance of further local embarrassment. Forest won at a canter with Barrie McKay’s goal before Lichaj’s effort.

Burton defender Tom Flanagan said: “This level is notoriously tough. It’s about bouncing back – and we proved we could do it last season, so there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t do it this season.”
