Dead shots could take England pens

- IAN HYLAND

There was a moment in the series eight opener of The

Walking Dead last night in which Rick Grimes went the full Bond villain. Not in a good way either.

Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, literally had his evil nemesis Negan in his sights.

But instead of taking a shot right there and then, he made like Auric Goldfinger with the laser and gave Negan a chance to get away.

Needless to say, with a Susan Calmanesque swivel of his hips, Negan grabbed the chance with open arms.

We can’t be too mad at Rick or the writing team, though.

Just as any Bond film would be ruined if a villain were to simply shoot 007 dead, had Negan not escaped the shootout this latest run of Fox’s zombie drama would have been over before it started.

As it is, it would appear the chase is still on.

At this stage we have no clues as to when or how it will end.

Well, no clues that we can actually trust.

This episode featured so many flash-forwards and/or dream sequences it was hard to work out what was going on. However, there was plenty of action.

I particularly liked the way Rick’s gang had fortified their cars and trucks for battle with corrugated steel panels.

It was like some kind of mash-up of The A-Team and Robot Wars.

They probably should have spent less time in the workshop and more time out on the firing range, though. Honestly, their shooting was so wayward, they could take penalties for England.
