Ace Kane chasing a nifty fifty

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

HARRY KANE has targeted a half-century of goals this year after meeting Diego Maradona.

The Spurs and England star became the Premier League’s top scorer this season with his brace in the 4-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday.

He has now netted 17 times in this campaign – and 45 times in 2017.

Kane, who netted 28 times after the new year last season, said: “Fifty would be nice. We will see.

“I feel good, but there are plenty of games to go, a lot of tough games coming up.”

Kane was asked whether he could surpass the scoring exploits of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Barcelona star Messi has already hit 50 in 2017 but has taken 51 games, whereas Kane has only had 40. Real Madrid’s Ronaldo has 43 goals in 47 games.

Kane said: “I want to be the best in the world and to do that you have to be up there with these guys.”

Argentina legend Maradona was a guest at Wembley, and Kane said: “He was a fantastic, downto-earth guy. He made nice compliments about me, the team and the boss. It was great to be in the company of someone like him.”
