I’m ready to tackle issues others won’t
I’M delighted to bring a new show to TV, The Stan Collymore Show.
One of the things I wanted to do is tackle relevant issues that other broadcasters won’t or that only seem to be dealt with in newspapers, which is a great credit to the paper industry.
Other than reactionary, two-minute interviews I have yet to see anything in depth on racism in the game, administration or management or ownership of football clubs – and the reason is broadcasters don’t want to touch it.
But these issues should be getting full shows – 30-minute or one-hour long documentaries. That’s what I want to do and I am delighted to have been given a full remit by Russia Today to be able to record, interview and talk about what I want.
There will be happy football stories, sad ones, others about racism, sexism, hooliganism and homophobia in our sport – a proper mixed bag.
We have a launch event tomorrow and two of the guests will be Troy Townsend from Kick It Out and England footballer Lianne Sanderson, who gave evidence to the commission in the Eni Aluko case last week.
They will be timely guests.
