WENGER KID GLOVES ARE COMING OFF

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ARSENE WENGER believes he has the squad to take a serious tilt at ending his League Cup drought.

Wenger has never won the competition in over 20 years in England, finishing as a runner-up in 2007 and 2011.

The Gunners boss admits part of the reason is because he has preferred to field young teams in the competition who haven’t quite been strong enough to go on and win it.

They were unlucky in 2007, going down 2-1 to Chelsea in Cardiff.

But this year the Frenchman has such a big squad that the side he picks to tackle Norwich tonight will be much more experienced.

Wenger is set to call on the players who secured a 1-0 Europa League win against Red Star Belgrade last week.

That means the likes of Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud are primed to start.

Wenger said: “I always used this cup to give a chance to young boys.

“We went to the final with a very young team and nearly won it.

“I always focus on winning trophies in the Premier League and FA Cup domestically, and always used the League Cup as an education for our young players.

“But to win away from home in the way we did at Belgrade, you need some special quality. Let’s hope we can reiterate that against Norwich.”
