A WIDOWER whose wife was mown down by a drink-driver still cannot bring himself to read a letter of apology written by her killer.

Ian Masters, 51, was walking with Debbie, 37, and their three boys when Naomi Oxley’s car careered off the road.

Oxley, 35, who swigged wine at the wheel after her boyfriend dumped her, was jailed for four years earlier this month after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.

Ian said: “After losing Debbie, I went through a very angry period. Although that’s passed, I still can’t read Oxley’s apology.

“When I think of Oxley I feel nothing towards her.”

The horror crash in Battle, East Sussex, on March 19 was witnessed by the couple’s children Kaden, 12, Noah, eight, and one-year-old Buster. Debbie was pinned against a wall outside a cafe while retired civil servant Ian was knocked unconscious and suffered several broken bones. The children escaped with minor injuries. On being discharged from hospital the next day, Ian had to tell his children their mother had gone. He recalled: “They didn’t believe me, they thought it was a joke. When we went to see her in the chapel of rest, they thought her body was a doll. “Even now, Noah thinks his mum will be coming back. When the cafe first reopened, he convinced himself she’d be sitting inside. When she wasn’t, he started saying she’d come back on Christmas Day.” Paying tribute to his late wife, Ian added: “Debbie’s whole life was her family. “It destroys me that she won’t get to see her babies growing up, like all mums expect to.”
