FUMING AT T-CHARGE

-

Every year I take my petrol car for its MoT and receive a copy of the emissions report.

My car, registered in 2006, has similar pollution levels 11 years on because I look after it.

However, if I drive into London I must now pay a toll of £21 due to its age.

Is the T-Charge yet another cynical scheme to get more money from the motoring public under the guise of environmental concern? Norman Galloway Milton Keynes, Bucks

Like those currently being forced to pay a significant amount of tax on their pension pot withdrawals, I was in a similar situation 10 years ago. My pension was covered by the so-called ‘triviality clause’ which meant I could take the thing as a lump sum.

However, it turned out it was not too ‘trivial’ to avoid being taxed on one third of it, but alas too ‘trivial’ to send to an offshore tax haven. Bill Brooks, Blyth Northumberland
