Eddie has Gunners’ kids firing

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ARSENAL continued their ’‘proud” tradition of producing young talent with the stunning emergence of Eddie Nketiah against Norwich – and there are more where he came from.

Striker Nketiah, 18, enjoyed a fairytale home debut when he came off the bench to score twice in 11 minutes and fire Arsenal into the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Nketiah, a prolific scorer at youth level with 48 goals in the last two seasons, showed Chelsea what they are missing after being released by them two years ago for being too small.

He followed in the footsteps of a string of players by making an impact at first-team level including this season’s emerging starlets such as Reiss Nelson, Josh Da Silva and Joe Willock.

And forward Emile Smith-Rowe, 17, is tipped to be one of the next off the Gunners’ production line.

He played in England’s Under-17s’ World Cup semifinal win over Brazil yesterday.

Boss Arsene Wenger said: “We are proud to give a chance to young players. It is part of our DNA and we want to continue that.”
