AN orphaned gorilla clings to the saviour taking her to a Cameroon animal sanctuary.

It is a picture that gives hope among a series of wildlife shots showing awful animal suffering.

The images were taken by the Photographers Against Wildlife Crime campaign group, which is crowdfunding to publish a book highlighting the animals’ plight.

Another shot shows an elephant in chains after killing five handlers in Chitwan National Park, Nepal.

Then there is the Fennec fox cub on sale in a Tunisian market, a thresher shark captured in a net off Mexico and a Philippine eagle cruelly trapped and fed by a handler wearing a fake bird glove.

Campaigner Britta Jaschinski, said: “We are losing species at an alarming rate. Photography can be a powerful tool.”
