I had to reply to the letter from the 18-year-old girl who is worrying about not having a boyfriend (Dear Coleen, October 17).

I really don’t understand why young girls feel the need to have a boyfriend unless it’s so that they can fit in with their friends.

Just concentrate on yourself and having fun.

My own daughter is 24 and couldn’t care less – she’s too busy working in a job she loves and travelling the world, meeting lots of new and wonderful people. Pearl Ashton, via email
