Woman of 81 dies in agony after 5hr wait for ambulance

A WOMAN of 81 suffering severe abdominal pains died after waiting five hours for an ambulance.

Jeanette Hawkins was hallucinat­ing and her skin had turned dark grey, according to son Kim. The 59-yearold, of Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, said: “We had to watch her die.”

Jeanette was operated on at Basildon Hospital but died next day in August. A postmortem cited blood poisoning caused by faecal matter due to a perforated bowel. Kim has complained to the Patient and Liaison Services. East of England Ambulance Services said: “Their concerns are being fully investigat­ed.” Meanwhile, Lynda Manning, 68, died after waiting an hour for medics when she fell and split her head in Swindon, Wilts, last month. South Western Ambulance Service said: “On this day demand was extremely high.”
