Woman of 81 dies in agony after 5hr wait for ambulance
A WOMAN of 81 suffering severe abdominal pains died after waiting five hours for an ambulance.
Jeanette Hawkins was hallucinating and her skin had turned dark grey, according to son Kim. The 59-yearold, of Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, said: “We had to watch her die.”
Jeanette was operated on at Basildon Hospital but died next day in August. A postmortem cited blood poisoning caused by faecal matter due to a perforated bowel. Kim has complained to the Patient and Liaison Services. East of England Ambulance Services said: “Their concerns are being fully investigated.” Meanwhile, Lynda Manning, 68, died after waiting an hour for medics when she fell and split her head in Swindon, Wilts, last month. South Western Ambulance Service said: “On this day demand was extremely high.”
