A WALKER who lost her dog on a mountain returned with a barbecue and cooked sausages and bacon in a desperate attempt to lure her back.

Rachael Nixon also used a drone to relay pictures from remote crags as she tried in vain to locate two-year-old cockapoo Ester.

And, with time for her pet running out, she carried out an 80-mile search of every route up 3,054-ft Ben Chonzie in Perthshire.

Then, after two weeks, a farmer phoned to report Ester had turned up on his land.

Rachael, 32, of Kirkcaldy, Fife, said: “I was screaming but had to stay as calm as possible as the farm was an hour’s drive away.

“As soon as Ester saw me she bounded over. She had lost five-and-a-half pounds but was absolutely ecstatic. From her smell, the farmer thought she had eaten part of a dead sheep which had helped her to survive.”
