Reds no to £1.5bn bid

-

LIVERPOOL’S owners turned down a £1.5billion offer to buy the club from an investment consortium led by Dubai financier Amanda Staveley, who is now leading the bid to buy Newcastle.

Following more than a year of negotiations, the sale was killed by Fenway Sports Group, who also own the Boston Red Sox, with FSG believing they could get a better price in the future.

Staveley was also involved in an earlier bid by Dubai investors to buy Liverpool in 2008.

Owner Mike Ashley has announced his intention to sell Newcastle. Talks about a £500m sale are ongoing.
