Lord moans: I won’t hang about to vote

- BY BEN GLAZE

A PEER who collected more than £14,000 in expenses despite not speaking in Parliament for a year yesterday moaned about “waiting around to vote”.

Lord Jones told BBC1’s Sunday Politics: “Have you ever been and listened to a debate in the Lords?

“You will see how many people are in there...there are usually between eight and 14 out of 800. And you have to put your name down in advance and you have to be there for the whole debate.”

He added: “I am not somebody who is going to hang around in Parliament’s restaurants and bars waiting to vote.”

Former CBI boss Lord Jones last week called for 500 peers to be axed but appeared not to include himself in that number.
