...Gerson therapy rids body of cancer cells

-

Here’s a myth I’m delighted to bust because it’s dangerous.

Gerson therapy aims to rid the body of toxins and strengthen its immune system through eating large quantities of fruit and vegetables. The followers of the therapy think that it’ll restore the right balance and cleanse the liver, thereby allowing it to rid the body of cancer cells.

During the therapy, each day you will need to drink 20lbs (about 9kg) of crushed fruit and vegetables, have three or four coffee enemas and take potassium and other supplements, including vitamin B12, pancreatic enzymes and thyroid supplements.

There’s no evidence to prove that Gerson therapy works as a cure for cancer. We need more research to compare it with accepted and proven treatments within properly organised clinical trials.

A review in the USA by the National Cancer Institute in 2010 found no evidence that it helped people who have the disease.

It’s up to you to decide whether you want to use any alternative therapy. But I don’t recommend you use them instead of your conventional treatments.

I would advise talking to a specialist first about any alternative or complementary therapies you might want to try.
