Regarding Jack Carter’s response to the letter from a woman whose husband is in ill health and verbally abusive (Dear Coleen, Oct 16), I too am in this situation. My husband had a severe stroke and is totally dependent on me.

It’s all very well saying the abuse is only words, but when you’re on the receiving end day in, day out for weeks and months, it’s so hard.

They say you take things out on the one you love, but that’s no consolation. I admit that sometimes I crack and yell back.

It’s important to recognise that the main carer’s life is also turned upside down. Everyone asks how my husband is, but no one asks how I am. Gail, Sheffield
