# Road users have been treated as second-class citizens for far too long.

Rail spending has increased continuous­ly, while road spending has remained flat.

The last major English road to be opened was the M6 Toll, which has not been a roaring success. At the same time, road taxes have soared.

Spending on rail projects often goes massively over budget, and motorists are expected to put up with poorly maintained roads, even though they handle the majority of journeys.
