Ed playing out of skin

- EXCLUSIVE BY ALEX SPINK

ED SLATER wrote his name into Gloucester folklore three weeks after a horror injury left him with a broken bone sticking out of his skin.

He snatched the late try which beat Bath 22-21 on Sunday. And Slater said such heroics had appeared unthinkable when he broke his finger 22 days ago in the warm-up before facing Northampton.

The lock said: “Open dislocation was the term. The bottom part of the knuckle split out of the skin.

“The pain was not so bad and, thankfully, we had an orthopaedic surgeon on hand to put it back in place and stitch up the wound.”

SEMESA ROKODUGUNI has been called into England’s squad with Elliot Daly set to be ruled out of the autumn internationals by a knee injury.
