£500k scam lovers jailed

A FORMER university dean and his secret lover have been jailed for five years each for stealing £513,000.

Robert Smedley, 52, created a role for Christopher Joynson at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, Lancs.

Joynson, 34, invoiced the university for work he had not undertaken. The pair, of West Kirby, Merseyside, were found guilty at Liverpool crown court of fraud.

DC David Wainwright said afterwards: “Smedley abused his position and deceived colleagues.”
