This one’s from a study in mice but it’s interesting nonetheless: black tea may promote weight loss by changing the bacteria in your gut.
Researchers from UCLA found that both black and green tea reduced the number of intestinal bacteria associated with obesity while increasing the bacteria associated with slimmer people.
The new findings show that black tea antioxidants (polyphenols) stimulate the growth of gut bacteria which favour slimness.
Susanne Henning, the study’s lead author, said: “Our new findings suggest that black tea, through a specific mechanism through the gut microbiome, may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans.”
It’s a good excuse to put the kettle on.
