DEENEY IS NAILED FOR JOE GOUGE
TROY DEENEY will sit out three games after Watford were hit by a disciplinary double blow.
The Hornets captain accepted an FA charge of violent conduct over his bust-up with Stoke midfielder Joe Allen in a stormy finish to Saturday’s 1-0 win by the Potters at Vicarage Road.
And both clubs have been charged with misconduct – failing to control their players – after two late mass confrontations.
Deeney will miss games with Everton, West Ham and Newcastle either side of the international break after digging his thumb into Allen’s cheek (above) in an ill-tempered response to Stoke’s timewasting and gamesmanship.
Although Allen made light of the incident, joking he has a “bad habit of picking the wrong fights”, TV footage was damning and Deeney never had any intention of challenging his punishment.
Both clubs have until 6pm on Friday to contest the misconduct charge.
