MANSON FAMILY KILLINGS
Charles Manson (7 victims)
JOHN said meeting Charles Manson, one of history’s most infamous inmates, at California’s San Quentin prison had been an experience. In 1969 the Manson Family slaughtered seven people, including film director Roman Polanski’s actress wife Sharon Tate. Manson, jailed in 1971, did not lift a finger but was still branded one of the most evil men in America. John, who is 6ft 2in, met 5ft 2in lifer Manson, who was not cuffed. John knew the former cult leader would try to dominate him so he arranged the furniture so Manson was looking down on him. John says: “He was very articulate and charismatic and you could see how young people were drawn to him. When he talks it’s almost like a tape recording. It wasn’t haunting, more just interesting. It was a tremendous experience.” Manson eventually told John he had no part in planning the first murders, but had temporarily lost control of his disciples.
