TOM TURKS A FIRM GRIP

- FROM JACOB MURTAGH in Antalya

TOMMY FLEETWOOD insists he can handle the heat as the Race To Dubai nears its climax.

The Southport-born star goes into the Turkish Airlines Open top of the leaderboard with just a handful of events remaining. Fleetwood, who moved clear of nearest rival Sergio Garcia by finishing 20th in Shanghai, insists he can shoulder the burden in the remaining events – 12 months after he was fighting for European Tour survival.

He said: “It’s pressure but it’s good pressure. I’d much rather be doing this than fighting for my Tour card.” Fleetwood (left) can extend his lead at the top with victory in Antalya, although Justin Rose, also in the field, is still bang in the hunt. Fleetwood added: “He’s a win away from overtaking me but I’m a win away from putting it pretty much out of reach.”
