Kiwis ban after Harry’s pelted on stage

ASDA banned sales of kiwis to under-25s at a store – after the fruit was chucked on stage as Harry Styles performed his song Kiwi.

The food giant was demanding proof of ID for kiwi buyers at its Hulme superstore last night ahead of the singer’s concert at the nearby O2 Apollo Manchester.

The star, 23, slipped on a kiwi and had to grab his microphone stand at his Hammersmith Apollo gig in London on Sunday.

An Asda spokesman said: “We feel it’s our duty to protect a fellow Mancunian from any ‘bad kiwis’. We’d hate to see a repeat of the mishap, so to avoid slippery situations, we feel this is a necessary measure.” A briefing was issued to stores to ensure they were aware of the temporary ban. Harry, from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, is on an 86-date world tour, performing material from his solo album and nods to his One Direction past, including the hit What Makes You Beautiful. In August, pineapples were banned from the Reading and Leeds festivals amid fears fans would lob the fruit when indie band Glass Animals sang the lyrics “pineapples are in my head” from their track Pork Soda.
